Barney McGahan
Barney McGahan joined the former Department of Health and Social Services in 1976 and became an associate member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1981. He has worked as Internal Auditor with the Southern Health and Social Services Board, as Director of Finance in the Armagh and Dungannon Unit of Management (now a Health and Social Services Trust), Director of Financial Management in the Health and Social Services Executive and Chief Operating Office and Director of Working Age Services in the Social Security Agency. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Armagh College of Further and Higher Education and Chairman of the charity Employers for Childcare.
He was appointed Chief Executive of the Child Support Agency in January 2004.
He currently has responsibility for Finance, Personnel, Corporate Services, Housing Policy and Social Security Policy and Legislation.
Resources Housing and Social Security Group
The group, headed by Barney McGahan, brings together the two vital social policy areas covering housing and social security, child support and pensions. It also negotiates and manages the allocation and control of resources across the Department and provides a range of corporate support services, including equality issues and strategic planning.
Current priorities include a major legislative programme bringing important changes to the housing, social security, child support and pension systems.
