David Ferguson
Career civil servant with 34 years experience of policy, operational and political work in central government in Northern Ireland.
Private Secretary to two Secretaries of State (Peter Brooke and Patrick Mayhew) 1990-92.
Joined the senior civil service on promotion to Assistant Secretary in 1993, taking up post initially as Director of Local Operations (to 1995) and later as Director of Personnel, Planning and Information (to 1997) in the Social Security Agency, Department of Health and Social Services.
Transferred to the then Central Secretariat under the Head of the NICS in 1997 and co-opted into the Political Directorate of the Northern Ireland Office to support Ministers in the political talks.
Promoted to Deputy Secretary in 1998 to work on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement until devolution in December 1999.
Director of Corporate Services in the Department of Finance and Personnel from January 2000.  
Chief Executive of the Planning Service, Department of the Environment from January 2004.
Head Urban Regeneration and Community Development Group, Department for Social Development from 25 February 2008.
