New Deal for Lone Parents
This is a scheme for lone parents who are not working or are working less than 16 hours a week and whose youngest child is under 16 years old, regardless of whether or not they are in receipt of a benefit. It is a voluntary scheme designed to provide help and advice to lone parents who wish to get into work or training.

Working tax credit / child tax credit
This is for couples or individuals with children where one person works 16 hours or more a week, couples or individuals without children where one person is aged 25 years or over and works 30 hours or more a week, couples or individuals where a person aged 50 years or more has moved off benefits to work 16 hours or more a week (whether with or without children).
