Maintenance Calculator

Our online calculator can help you work out a figure for a private agreement. The amount of maintenance our calculator estimates is based on a similar formula to that used by the statutory maintenance service operated by the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Division. This figure can be used as a starting point for discussion between both parents to make a private arrangement or to provide an estimate of what you would pay/receive if you used the statutory maintenance service.

A private agreement:

  • Does not have to follow a strict formula to work out child maintenance.
  • You and the other parent could agree on a weekly figure, based on the paying parent’s income, or include payments ‘in kind’. Payments ‘in kind’ could include payment towards household bills.
  • Child maintenance could be paid weekly, every two weeks, once a month, whatever suits both parents and the child best.
  • Payment can be made in lots of different ways such as standing order, cheque or cash – it’s up to both parents to agree what’s best but you should keep records of all payments.
  • The important thing is that the final agreement is one you both agree to and provides regular and reliable financial support to help child’s living costs.
If you need further help reaching a figure for a private agreement, we can discuss your choices over the phone.
