Legal Obligations

It is an offence to fail to provide information when it is required.
Under Article 16A of the Child Support (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 it is an offence to:
  • make a false statement or representation; or
  • knowingly provide, or allow to be provided, false information
  • fail to provide information when we ask for it.
Under Article 17(9) of the Child Support (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 it is a criminal offence for any person to:
  • intentionally delay or obstruct any inspector exercising their powers; or
  • without reasonable excuse, to refuse or neglect to answer any questions or supply any information or to produce any document when it is required.
If a person is found guilty of these offences they will be subject, on conviction, to a fine up to £1000.
