Research to inform a fundamental review of social housing allocations policy

In 2012, the Minister for Social Development announced a fundamental review of social housing allocations in Northern Ireland, delivering on a commitment set out in his Housing Strategy and Facing the Future Action Plan.
Independent research was commissioned and three reports, prepared by the Universities of Ulster and Cambridge, have been published, providing the academics’ views on the future of social housing allocations -

A range of stakeholders have already been consulted to get to this point, but the research team will continue to seek the views of as wide a range of people as possible.
There will be public events to discuss the reports in:
  • Belfast - 21 January 2014,
  • Londonderry - 22 January 2014 and
  • Craigavon - 31 January 2014.

The deadline for comments on the reports is Tuesday 4 March 2014.

When we have received public comments on the reports, the Department will consider all feedback received and develop its proposals, which will in turn be subject to full public consultation.
