Accommodation

2.6  General - The standards have been predicated upon new build general needs provision as this is the majority of the provision that is funded by DSD.  The standards will also apply to other new build provision where the accommodation to be provided is similar to that of general needs provision in all aspects other than categorisation. This section describes the various accommodation types used in social housing provision, the TCI Area/Cost Bands applicable, the minimum design standards required for the various accommodation types, and any special design features that support the particular accommodation type including considerations that must be taken into account for that particular type of housing provision to enhance and improve the overall quality of the scheme.  The design features and minimum standards that must be adhered to are covered in the specific section and must also include appropriate requirements set out in the following links:
2.7  Accommodation Types - Broadly the Accommodation types can be categorised into 4 main groups.
  • General Needs Housing.
  • Wheelchair Housing.
  • Elderly Housing.
  • Supported Housing.
The general needs standards apply to all the categories listed above.  However some of the categories or types of accommodation require additional specific and supplementary design features and standards over and above the core general needs standards.  Guidance on the additional standards that apply are noted under the respective accommodation types i.e. Wheelchair Housing; Elderly Housing; Supported Housing.
