Affordability Review
An Independent Affordability Review under the direction of Sir John Semple, a former head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, was announced by Right Honourable David Hanson MP on 5 September 2006. The Review’s remit was wide-ranging and the mechanisms aimed at securing social housing for rent, growing a quality private rented sector and assisting people into homeownership were examined.
Final Report
Sir John Semple launched the Review into Affordable Housing Final Report on 4th April 2007. This follows the publication of the Review into Affordable Housing Interim Report for consultation on 14th December which received approximately 100 responses that helped to shape Sir John’s Final Report. Annex 7 (page 65) in the report contains a list of individuals and organisations that responded to the Interim Report. Unfortunately Craigavon Borough Council and Mark Conway were omitted from this list.
To support the work of the Affordability Review, AdviceNI and partners were commissioned to conduct qualitative research to gain an insight into the personal impact of the lack of affordable homes.
