Warm Homes Scheme – Under New Management
The Warm Homes scheme was re-launched this week. It will be managed by H&A Mechanical Services Ltd and Bryson Charitable Group.
This is probably one of the hottest (excuse the pun) pieces of news to hit the website this week. If any organisation does what it says on the tin, it is ‘Warm Homes’.
Many of the more mature folk amongst you who have been along to roadshows in the past may remember them as the people who gave out the free energy saving light bulbs. A very popular item for all those who completed a short survey.
Ask yourself a few simple questions.
Is my home cold in winter?
Do I get a draught when the wind blows through my house?
Does the water in my tank cool down too quickly?
All these questions can be answered and resolved by the Warm Homes staff. Several years ago I spoke to the people running the scheme since 2001 and the staff would tell me that people think there is a hitch – the old don’t get nothing for nothing syndrome – or if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. This is definitely not the case.
Let me tell you about my own experience of this. My old mum, God rest her, lived in a very draughty house. She was 70. My brother lived in the house with her. The guys came out and did a brilliant job to make her house toasty warm. They gave her a few tips about her central heating, sealed up the doorways to prevent draughts blowing through the doors and even put insulation in the loft. In her case she was getting certain benefits. In her case the cost was nil. Not bad eh!
There is a dedicated number for the Warm Homes scheme now in operation - 0800 988 0559.
It’s a free phone number, unless you use your mobile. Give them a call. It won’t cost you anything but it just might save you a lot of money this coming winter and for years to come.
The Energy you save will also help to reduce your own personal ‘carbon footprint’. Don’t worry I won’t go there. I am still trying to understand it myself. It’s worth checking out on the internet or your local library. The experts tell me its good for me so enough said.
