Ballyclare Town Centre Masterplan - Public Consultation
Concepts and ideas for regenerating Ballyclare Town Centre using a masterplan process will be available for public consultation during the period 28 June 2010 – 25 August 2010.
The Department for Social Development, in conjunction with Newtownabbey Borough Council, is seeking comments and views from interested parties and the general public on the proposals for developing a more vibrant town centre in Ballyclare.
A series of boards showing sketches, plans and the full range of proposals will be on display for a total period of approximately 8 weeks (excluding holiday periods), at the following venues -
- Ballyclare Town Hall, The Square, Ballyclare BT39 9BB
Dates – 28 June 2010 – 2 July 2010 Times – Mon to Fri (10.00 am – 4.30 pm)
- Newtownabbey Council Offices; Mossley Mill, Carnmoney Road North, Newtownabbey BT36 5QA
Dates – 5 July 2010 – 25 August 2010 Times – Mon – Fri (9.00 am – 6.00 pm) Sat (9.00 am - 5.00 pm)
Consultants carrying out work on the Masterplan and/or staff from the Department for Social Development and Newtownabbey Borough Council will be available during the initial consultation period from 28th June – 2 July to discuss the proposals from 10.00 am – 4.30pm. Arrangements are also being made with local community groups and stakeholders for facilitated sessions during this period.
If you have any views on the proposals, please submit these in writing at any of the above venues or by contacting the address below or online at the Department‘s website www.dsdni.gov.uk and clicking on “Consultation” on the main menu and Newtownabbey Draft Masterplan.
The consultation response on the proposals will be considered by the Department in any final future development proposals for Ballyclare Town Centre.

Development Opportunity at Curran Street / Obins Street Portadown

The Department for Social Development wish to make interested parties aware of a tender for the acquisition and redevelopment of a site at Curran Street / Obins Street in Portadown.
The site, which is currently vacant and in the ownership of the Department is approximately 2.3 acres in size and triangular in shape. It is situated in close proximity to the town centre and the main retail sector of the town.
It is considered that the site would be suitable for a mixed use scheme comprising mixed tenure housing (there is a requirement for 12 units of social housing) with a small element of supporting neighbourhood retail/office accommodation.
Full planning permission will be obtained by the Department. Ownership of the site will be transferred from DSD on completion to the preferred developer, who may also have the option, in agreement with DSD, to develop the site as one phase or as several smaller phases.
A detailed brief for the site has been prepared and bona fide developers may obtain tender documents from Central Procurement Directorate, Department of Finance and
Personnel, by accessing the website; www.cpd.gov.uk and clicking ‘eSourcingNI’. The ref. No. for the tender is: 2578 Developers wishing to lodge proposals with Central Procurement Directorate must do so by 28th July 2010 to meet the tender return date of 4th August 2010.
The Department does not bind itself to accept any proposal submitted.
