HS Wigs and Fabric Supports
Some people may be entitled to help with the cost of HS Wigs and Fabric Supports because of age, medical condition or because they or their partner get Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance (Income based).
People on a low income, including people on Working Tax Credit with a household income of £15,050 or less may be entitled to get help.
You will be automatically entitled to free wigs and fabric supports if you are:
(1)a hospital in-patient at the time the wig or fabric support is supplied;
(2)under 16 or under 19 and still in full-time education;
(5)in receipt of a War or service Disablement Pension and they need a wig or fabric support for their disability;
(7)a person whose name is on a HC2 full help certificate.
If the patient is not included in the groups mentioned they may be able to get help with the cost of wigs and supports if they are on a low income. This is in the form of a full help certificate (HC2) or a limited help certificate (HC3).
If you are a HS out patient receiving treatment and you qualify for free wigs and fabric supports you should take some proof with you e.g. HC2.
If you are claiming on the grounds of low income you should complete form HC1 and send it to your local Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office.
You will either receive a free wig and/or fabric support (in the case of a full help certificate being issued - HC2), or will be informed how much you have to contribute to the cost (in the case of a part/limited help certificate being issued - HC3).
How long is help provided for?
Low income entitlement usually lasts for up to 13 months depending on your circumstances.
Dependent on your financial circumstances.
Refunds can be claimed if inside 3 months of date charge was paid.
