Funeral Payment

Summary

A Funeral Payment is intended to help you pay for certain funeral costs if you are on a low income and you are the person responsible for arranging the funeral. It is recoverable from any money available from the deceased's estate. If you fulfil the conditions required you will be paid.

Who is entitled?

You may receive a Funeral Payment if you, or your partner, are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
and you have good cause for taking responsibility, but have insufficient funds to meet such a large expense.
A funeral payment will cover the necessary costs of a simple, respectful, low cost funeral. Other funeral expenses may also be paid up to a limit of £700.
You also have the right to appeal should your application fail.

How to claim

You should complete form SF200 which is available from your local Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office or the registrar's office.
