Starting Work

Your rights to social security benefits will not necessarily be affected if you do voluntary work or take a paid job, but in some circumstances they could be.
The following list gives general guidance on how the various benefits could be affected by different kinds of work, and where the person starting work is the customer, partner, member of the family, or carer.
A Back To Work Checklist is available to provide a list of things you may need to ask about at your Social Security Agency and Northern Ireland Housing Executive or Rate Collection Agency office.
