Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

Not paid if you were self-employed
Depends on how serious your disablement is

Are you:

  • Disabled because of an accident at work?
  • Suffering from an illness, including deafness, known to be a risk of your job?
If YES to one, claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
If you are claiming because of a disease, you can only get Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit for listed industrial diseases - check with your Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office.
If you get Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, need daily care and attention and your disablement is assessed as 95 per cent or more, you may get Constant Attendance Allowance . This is paid at four different rates.
If you get Exceptional or Intermediate rate Constant Attendance Allowance and you need permanent constant care and attention, you may also get Exceptionally Severe Disablement Allowance.
If you contracted pneumoconiosis, byssinosis or certain other diseases because of work before 5 July 1948, you may be able to get cash help under the Pneumoconiosis, Byssinosis and Miscellaneous Diseases Benefit Scheme . For more information about this, get in touch with your Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office.

How to Claim

When to claim

If you are claiming Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit because of an accident, claim after you have been disabled because of the accident for two months. If you delay you may lose benefit.

Claim Form

Contact your Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office for a claim form. For your nearest Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office, look for the Social Security Agency display advert in the business numbers section of the phone book.

Filling in the form

Before you fill in your form, check that you are applying for everything you may be entitled to.

Proof of identity

It is important that we can be sure of your identity when you make a claim. We may need to ask you about your background and look at any official documents you have to support the information you give. This could be your original birth certificate, passport or other documents. You may need more than one.
If you are not sure about this, get leaflet ISSP "How to prove your identity" from your Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office.
