New Deal for Disabled People
What is New Deal for Disabled people?
New Deal for Disabled People is designed especially for people who have a disability or a long-term illness and want to work.
It is open to people who are claiming:
- Incapacity Benefit
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- Income Support paid with a disability premium or pending the result of an appeal against a disallowance from Incapacity Benefit)
- Housing Benefit (paid with a disability premium provided the premium is paid in respect of the recipient and they are not in paid work of 16 hours or more per week or in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance.)
- Disability Living Allowance (where it is paid in respect of the recipient himself / herself and the recipient is not in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance and is not in paid work, or is in paid work of 16 hours or more per week.
- War Pension (with an Unemployability Supplement)
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (with an Unemployability Supplement)
- Credits only cases on the grounds of incapacity.
New Deal for Disabled People is entirely voluntary.
What does the New Deal consist of?
The programme involves the following elements:
- a Job Broker Service to help disabled people and those with a long term illness to overcome barriers to work;
- the Job Broker will provide help with clients' social and health circumstances, developing their skills and potential and matching clients with the needs of local employers.
