New Deal for Partners

What is the New Deal for Partners?

New Deal for Partners offers guidance and advice with jobsearch and training to partners of people who have been receiving Jobseeker's Allowance (but not as a joint claim), Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance or Carer's Allowance or a combination of these qualifying benefits for 6 months or more. It is up to the partner to ask for this help.

How does it work?

Partners of people in receipt of benefit can have a series of interviews with a Personal Adviser. The interviews are tailored to meet the needs of the individual, helping them overcome any barriers to starting work. It offers help to find a job they want to do. This could be in the form of;
  • help with jobsearch or interview skills if they are ready for work
  • a short, refresher skills course before starting to look for a job, or
  • a chance to train for something new.
Personal Advisers can also advise on local provision for childcare and what is available in the way of education and training. Personal Advisers can also undertake in work benefit calculations and advise about the Working Tax Credit.
