Extended Linking Period for Housing Costs

The Extended Linking Period for Housing Costs scheme is available if you are under 60 years of age and are returning to Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance (Income Based) from full time work, or following participation in a New Deal programme.
If you reclaim benefit in these circumstances within a 52 week period you will not need to serve another qualifying period in order to get help with your mortgage or home loan interest payments.
To benefit from this extended linking period you must have been eligible for help with housing costs at the time you started work.
The usual 12 week linking rules apply to :
  • people returning to benefit for any other reason, and
  • those who were still within the qualifying period for help towards housing costs at the time they started work.
