Part 3 - Crisis Loans

Establishing priorities

General

4800The discretionary aspect of the SF scheme.exists to use available resources:
  • flexibly, and
  • targeted on those whose needs are greatest
Look at each application to see if a crisis loan is appropriate to meet the identified need.
4801A crisis loan should not be made unless either:
  • it is the only means of avoiding serious damage or risk to the health or safety of the applicant or a member of the family
  • the need is for rent in advance when someone leaving institutional or residential care and a CCG is being awarded to enable them to return to the community
4802If an award of a crisis loan is the only means of preventing serious damage or a serious risk to the health or safety of the applicant or a member of his family the application will by its nature be of high priority.
4803Crisis loan needs have first claim on the loans budget, above that of budgeting loan applications.
