What we have done

Already Achieved

Benefit Uptake

Since 2005, the Benefit Uptake Programmes have generated £37.65m in annual benefits and arrears for our customers.
In the 2010/11 Programme, over £3.95million in annual benefit was generated for nearly 2,000 customers because they claimed benefits and allowances they had been missing out on. That’s almost £48 extra per week for each person!
We achieved this through
  • Citizens Advice, working under contract with the Agency, delivering 3 exercises, which targeted groups such as older people, people with disabilities and families.
  • An outreach strand carried out in the Antrim, Armagh, Ballymoney, Banbridge, Coleraine, Down, Dungannon, Fermanagh, Larne, Magherafelt, Newry & Mourne, and Omagh Council areas.

Benefit Reviews

On a continuing basis the Agency reviews awards to benefit to make sure the correct amount is paid. During the period 01/04/10-31/03/11 the Agency reviewed over 90,000 cases and adjusted benefit in over 7,800 of these. This activity has resulted in increased benefit awards and arrears of almost £12.54m being paid.
