Settlement Information Classification and Analysis Group

In February 2005, Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency published a report on the classification of settlements in Northern Ireland, together with a Census Report making use of that classification. The report noted that although population provided the main basis of the classification, a large part of the function of settlements was to provide services.

Accordingly, the Settlement Information, Classification and Analysis Group (SICAG) was established, and asked to look at the subject of services.

SICAG produced a Report on settlement service classification (PDF 311KB), based on a more detailed Settlement Service Classification Technical Report (PDF 367KB).
