Lisburn City Centre Masterplan / Transport Study

Purpose

In January 2009, the Department for Social Development in partnership with Lisburn City Council commissioned GVA Grimley Ltd consultants to produce a Masterplan for Lisburn.
The purpose of the Masterplan was to build upon Lisburn’s historical distinctness and industrial heritage and develop a series of proposals for the future prosperity and development of the city centre and its people. Its specific aims are to strengthen the retail offer, develop a cultural and leisure offer, create a space for business, whilst maintaining and enhancing the city’s historic assets and maximising potential in its connectivity to the River Lagan.
The Masterplan was displayed in Lisburn city Library for viewing and comments from 28 August to 9 October 2009.
Aims
  • Urban design to maximise future development opportunities
  • Public realm and open space to benefit the commercial core
  • Tourism and Leisure enhancements to retain those markets
  • Retail developments to provide high quality shopping outlets
  • Residential and business office development to promote vibrancy
In January 2009, the Paul Hogarth Company were also appointed by the Department for Social Development and Lisburn City Council, to prepare Transport Study of Lisburn City Centre.  The study falls into two separate parts, a Transport Assessment to support the masterplan and a Transportation Study taking into account future development in the greater Lisburn area.  The assignment was jointly funded by DSD and Lisburn City Council.
