The Community Volunteering Scheme (CVS)
Purpose and Objective:
To encourage and support volunteering; create and enhance opportunities for volunteers that will encourage learning and good practice; and promote a positive image of volunteering and community participation. The CVS Programme is delivered on behalf of the Department by the Volunteer Development Agency. £3 million is available for the period 2006-2009, and the main grants programme is now closed.
The Scheme has two elements - main grants and small grants.
Current Status and Funding Level
Last year the main grants were awarded for the 2006-2009 round. Under Main Grants six regional projects will receive £0.6m and 22 locally based projects will receive £1.6m.
A further £0.7M will be made available through CVS Small Grants of up to £1,000 per year to help locally based voluntary or community organisations that involve volunteers in their work. The Small Grants are administered and distributed by Northern Ireland's 15 volunteer centres.
