Local Community Fund 2006-2008
Purpose:
The Local Community Fund was established in February 2003 with the aim of developing greater community capacity and leadership in local areas suffering high levels of disadvantage where community infrastructure is weak. The Fund provides local people with the opportunity and funding to become involved in identifying and addressing issues and priorities, which have the potential to make a noticeable difference in their local areas.
Objectives:
Five specific objectives for the Fund are as follows:
- to develop community capacity and leadership;
- to promote partnership working, within and between communities;
- to help communities improve their local environments;
- to develop intervention programmes with young people; and
- to encourage more active participation by women in local community services.
Current Status:
The current round of funding is due to end on 31st March 2008. The minister has decided to carry out a review of the programme. An evaluation is underway and the review is due to be completed by early 2008.
Criteria:
Local Community Fund targets those Super Output areas (SOAs) within the 11%-20% most deprived communities as defined by Noble 2005. This will complement the support DSD provides through the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy for the 10% most deprived communities as defined by Noble 2005.
Funding Level:
Total amount of the Fund available for 2006/08 is £2m per annum. Allocations are based on population of Super Output Areas.
Delivery Bodies:
1. As in previous years an Intermediary Funding Body is responsible for the delivery and management of the Fund in each Council area.
