Why we started
The North Belfast Community Action Unit was set up in August 2002 following a report on social and community in North Belfast, ‘The Dunlop Report’. The report recommended that the Government should set up a dedicated unit to:
- build community capacity
- develop a long term strategy for the area
- encourage partnerships
- take responsibility for addressing issues in interface areas.
It also recommended that Government should develop a major site involving mixed usage to serve as a symbol of hope and economic regeneration for North Belfast.
