John Spellar announces further £120K for North Belfast - 12 January 2004
The Rt Hon John Spellar, MP, Minister with responsibility for Community Relations, today announced that a further £120,000 is to be allocated to community organisations in north Belfast.
The funding is being allocated under an extension to the Youth Development Programme which aims to support youth work across north Belfast.
John Spellar said: "This Government continues with its commitment to support and develop local communities to address their needs and tackle problems. Today’s announcement builds upon work started last year on the longer-term development of young people and to contribute to improving community relations across north Belfast.
"It is important to keep momentum with this much needed support for young people in north Belfast. It is also important that communities are encouraged to address the needs of their areas. Extending the current Youth Development Programme to March 2004 will help this process and will give time for full integration into Community Empowerment Partnerships from April."
