New Deal for Disabled People
What is New Deal for Disabled people?
New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) is designed especially for people who have a disability or a long-term illness and want to work.
NDDP Qualifying Benefits
To qualify for NDDP the customer must be in direct receipt of one or more of the following qualifying benefits for themselves:
- Incapacity Benefit
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- National Insurance (NI) credits on the grounds of incapacity (which may be awarded on their own or in addition to payments of income related benefits - Income Support, Housing Benefit or War Pension).
- Income Support with a disability premium
- Income Support pending the result of an appeal against disallowance from IB
- Disability Living Allowance provided the recipient is not in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance and is not in paid work, of 16 hours or more per week.
- War Pension (with an Unemployability Supplement)
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (with an Unemployability Supplement)
- A benefit equivalent to Incapity Benefit that has been imported into Great Britain under the European Community Regulations on the co-ordination of social security and the terms of the European Economic Area Agreement.
- Pension Credit with a disability premium, or Pension Credit with a Doctor's statement (Form Med3 or Med 5) confirming you have a health condition or disability (*see below)
* As long as you do less than 16 hours paid work per week and do not get Jobseekers Allowance.
New Deal for Disabled People is entirely voluntary.
What does the New Deal consist of?
The programme involves the following elements:
- a Job Broker Service to help disabled people and those with a long term illness to overcome barriers to work;
- the Job Broker will provide help with clients' social and health circumstances, developing their skills and potential and matching clients with the needs of local employers.
